My Zumbro Valley...

Zumbro Valley Golf Course is a special place for me for many reasons. As a kid, I grew up golfing at the course and as a young adult I worked on the grounds crew. I often look back and laugh at events that I witnessed, or were a part of. I could write a book about all of the shenanigans that went on out there, but one event sticks clearly in my head...

I believe it was my second summer working there and we had to re-string the irrigation line back over to the island from the pump on #6 fairway. The water was extremely high (really dirty and had who-knows-what floating in it as well) and had swept the line off. But, we needed to water number 4 green so the line had to get to the island. I was volunteered to hang on to the cable that crosses the creek and carry back the irrigation line.

I cannot swim and told them that so a rotten old rope was tied around my waist and was held onto by a co-worker. I got about five feet across the river and I was laying flat out with my back in the water. Trees, sticks and other things were going by. The boss was yelling encouragement while my co-worker was laughing so hard he almost fell over. I finally got ahold of the line and got it back to the other side. I was soaked, dirty and happy to not have drown...
